Zirconium(IV) sulfide is the
inorganic compound
In chemistry, an inorganic compound is typically a chemical compound that lacks carbon–hydrogen bonds, that is, a compound that is not an organic compound. The study of inorganic compounds is a subfield of chemistry known as '' inorganic chemist ...
with the formula
Zr S2. It is a violet-brown solid. It adopts a layered structure similar to that of
cadmium iodide.
Like the closely related
titanium disulfide, ZrS
2 is prepared by heating sulfur and zirconium metal. It can be purified by
vapor transport using iodine.
