Zastávka is a municipality and village in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,500 inhabitants.


Etymology

The word ''zastávka'' means 'stop' or 'station' in Czech. The name of the village refers to an inn of that name that once stood here.

History

The first written mention of the name Zastávka is from 1775, when there was an inn, but the village did not exist yet. The village was founded as a result of black coal mining, which began here in 1788 and lasted for 180 years. The municipality was established in 1875 and originally named Boží Požehnání after the mine. Since 1920, it has been named Zastávka.

Transport

The I/23 road (the section from Brno to Třebíč) passes through the municipality. Zastávka is located on the railway line Brno–Třebíč.
