Studios in London. "Come Monday" is the only song on the album that features a vocal overdub recorded in a studio. Buffett has mentioned in past interviews that the album was recorded during a very 'painful' time. Chart performance

''You Had to Be There'' reached No. 72 on the ''Billboard'' 200 album chart and No. 29 on the ''Billboard'' Top Country Albums chart. The album was also certified "Gold" by the RIAA.
