Katt was born in Los Angeles to actors Bill Williams (birth name Herman August Wilhelm Katt) and
Barbara Hale Barbara Hale (April 18, 1922 – January 26, 2017) was an American actress who portrayed legal secretary Della Street in the dramatic television series '' Perry Mason'' (1957–1966), earning her a 1959 Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting A ...
. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley and began acting as a teenager, sometimes appearing with his parents. He graduated from Army & Navy Academy, Carlsbad, California.

Katt attended
