He married firstly, on 5 July 1865 Elizabeth Caroline Tyrwhitt-Drake (1841–22 January 1901), daughter of Thomas Tyrwhitt-Drake of Shardeloes, by whom he had 5 sons and 3 daughters. His second wife, whom he married on 25 November 1903, was Emily Susan Christian (1866–1958), daughter of Admiral Henry Christian.Under family history, Earl St Aldwyn. He retired from parliament at the 1918 general election and died in 1923 aged 82. He was heir-presumptive to the Hicks-Beach baronetcy but did not live to succeed to the title.
