Franchise history

The Washington Power were founded as one of MLRH's charter franchises. Beginning play in 1998, the Power made their debut on June 14, 1998, losing 12-6 in their first home game to the New York Rockers. They won their first game two weeks later, defeating the Toronto Torpedoes at home, 9-8. Dan Scardino was the Power's top goal scorer that first season with a total of 25 goals. The Power were able to receive a playoff berth in their inaugural season with a 9-11-0 record tailing 18 points. Playoff success did come quickly, as the Power defeated the New York Rockers 15-4 at home. Their glory was short lived as they were defeated by the undefeated
