[Normandin, AL ''Canadian Parliamentary Guide, 1941''] Stewart was speaker in 1931 and again from 1940 to 1944. He was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1931. Stewart served in the province's Executive Council as Minister of Agriculture in 1944 and as Minister of Welfare and Labour from 1956 to 1957. He died in office at the age of 70.
