The station was assigned the WQVE call sign by the FCC on December 5, 1977, and signed on for the first time on November 1, 1978. Studios were originally located in Mechanicsburg, with the transmitter located north of Dillsburg near Williams Grove. The branding was changed to ''Magic 93'' in 1982, followed by a call sign change to WKCD. In 1985, ''FM104'' WTPA changed call signs to
