Shainskay was married three times: 1) to composer
Asya Sultanova; 2) to Natalya Vasilievna Shainskaya, with whom he had a son; and 3) to Svetlana Vladimirovna Shainskaya, with whom he had a son and a daughter.
Shainsky was ill with stomach cancer and underwent several operations. He died at 2 am on
Christmas Day 2017, at the age of 92, after suffering a long illness at the San Diego Hospital in California, United States.
