He won the Soviet field hockey title in 1970, 1971 and 1974, placing second in 1972 and third in 1976 and 1977. Between 1976 and 1980 he was a member of the national team. After retiring from competitions he worked as a bandy coach in his native Ulyanovsk. He died in 2003 when a fire broke out in his
