Until 18 July 2020, Verkhniodniprovsk was the administrative center of
Verkhniodniprovsk Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to seven. The area of Verkhniodniprovsk Raion was merged into Kamianske Raion.

On 4 April 2016 the bust of Shcherbytskyi in Verkhniodniprovsk was removed from the state register and lost its status of being a monument, instead the city council gave it the status of "an integral element of landscaping."
The bust was dismantled on 18 January 2024.
