Born on 9 September 1955 in Bombay, Mohanraj was a prolific left-handed top-order batsman for Bombay, Hyderabad and South Zone. He appeared in 54 first-class matches and one List A game in a career that spanned between 1975/76 and 1987/88. He was a member of the Bombay team that won the 1976–77 Ranji Trophy and the Hyderabad team that won the 1986–87 Ranji Trophy. He scored his personal best 211
