FC Remscheid is a German association football club from Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia formed on 1 July 1990 out of the merger of ''BV Lüttringhausen'' and ''VfB Marathon Remscheid''.

History

Predecessor side ''Marathon'' was formed in 1906 and ''BV Lüttringhausen'' was founded 25 October 1908 in the northern city district of the same name. ''VfB'' merged with a club called ''BV Remscheid'' in 1971 while ''Lüttringhausen'' became the similarly named ''BVL 08 Remscheid'' in July 1985. After the 1 July 1990 merger of ''VfB'' and ''BVL'' the combined side ''Fußball-Club Remscheid'' won the Oberliga Nordrhein (III) title in 1991 and emerged from a promotion round playoff into the 2. Bundesliga where they played two seasons before being relegated.
