Name

The municipality was named after the old ''Vevring'' farm ( non, Wæfring), since
Vevring Church Vevring Church ( no, Vevring kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Indrevevring. It is one of two churches for the Naustdal parish which is part o ...
is located there. The farm was named after a stream that flowed past it. The name of the stream comes from the Old Norse word ''vafra'' which means to "go here and there", which describes the path of the stream.
