Vavta Vas was attested in written sources in 1436 as ''Walpottendorff'' (and as ''Waltendorf'' in 1449 and ''Waltensdorf'' in 1465). The medieval names indicate that the Slovene name is derived from ''*Valpťa vas'', literally '
