Taxonomy

The genus ''Trichoglossus'' was introduced in 1826 by the English naturalist James Francis Stephens. The name combines the Ancient Greek ''thrix'' meaning "hair" and ''glōssa'' meaning "tongue". The type species was subsequently designated as the
