History

Trainriders Northeast adopted five goals when they were organized in 1989, the first being the return of passenger rail service to Maine from Boston on the former ''Pine Tree'' route of the Boston & Maine and the
Maine Central The Maine Central Railroad Company was a U. S. Class I railroad in central and southern Maine. It was chartered in 1856 and began operations in 1862. By 1884, Maine Central was the longest railroad in New England. Maine Central had expanded to w ...
. One of the original goals was to return passenger rail service from Portland to Brunswick, where Amtrak service could connect with the
