Tirthas Of Rameswaram

There are sixty-four Tīrthas (holy water bodies) in and around the island of Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India.Murali (2000), p. 574 According to Skanda Purana, Skānda Purāṇa, twenty-four of them are important.Setu Māhātmyam, Adhyāya 2, verse 104 Bathing in these Tīrthas is a major aspect of the pilgrimage to Rameswaram and is considered equivalent to penance.Setu Māhātmyam, Adhyāya 1, verse 24 Twenty-two of the Tīrthas are within the Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram, Rāmanāthasvāmī Temple.Seturaman (2001), p. 216
