, he served as Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk from 2003 to 2014. He served previously as Vice-Lieutenant of Suffolk since 1994 and was Deputy Lieutenant before that, since 1984. He is patron or president of several organizations and societies. Tollemache was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the 2015 New Year Honours.
