in the town of Adyar, then located outside the limits of Madras city. Brodie inhabited the house for a short period but later, due to his declining fortunes, rented the house to tenants, the first of whom was Sir Thomas Strange, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Madras.
Following Brodie's death in 1801 in a boating accident, the family sold the property which was purchased by the Arbuthnot Family who resided in it for a while.
