In 1988 Teagasc succeeded An Foras Talúntais/The Agricultural Institute (AFT) which was responsible for agricultural research, and An Chomhairle Oiliúna Talmhaíochta/The Agricultural Training Council (ACOT) which was responsible for education and advisory services.
