Singh was arrested by Hyderabad Police on 23 August 2022, mere hours after Singh's comments about Muhammad sparked protests in Hyderabad. It was speculated by many that the police were pressured by the ruling party in the state to take action against the accused.. He was suspended from BJP on 23 August for allegedly violating party norms . He was released on bail the same evening but later arrested again on 25 August 2022. After his speech had gone viral, Congress leader Rashid Khan from Hyderabad threatened to cut his head and burn down the city. After his threats, BJP questioned him over threats to a MLA and the Telangana Government for not intervening . Despite public outrage, Rashid was not arrested.
