History

The magazine was started in 1966 by The Progressive Farmer Company, the publisher of '' Progressive Farmer'' magazine. In 1980, the company changed its name to Southern Progress Corporation to reflect its increasingly diverse business, and in 1985, it was purchased by
Time, Inc. Time Inc. was an American worldwide mass media corporation founded on November 28, 1922, by Henry Luce and Briton Hadden and based in New York City. It owned and published over 100 magazine brands, including its namesake ''Time'', ''Sports Illu ...
for $498 million. In 2017 Time, Inc. was purchased by the Meredith Corporation.
