Rawlings previously worked as an attorney. In 2022 he ran against incumbent representative C. Ed Massey. Rawlings defeated Massey in the primary by 37.4 points. He went on to face Tim Montgomery on November 8, 2022. Rawlings defeated Montgomery by 40.8 points, and he assumed office on January 1, 2023.
