In 2012 Hartmann became Professor of Philosophy of Science in the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and the Study of Religion at LMU Munich, where he also is co-director of the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP). Hartmann is President of the European Philosophy of Science Association (2013–17) and President of the
European Society for Analytic Philosophy (2014-2017). Since 2016, he is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina, and since 2019, he is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
