The club was founded on June 4, 1912, as Sport Club Hispano-Americano, changing the name to Sport Club Americano in the following year. They won the
Campeonato Gaúcho The Campeonato Gaúcho Série A1 (Gaúcho Championship A1 Series or Série A1), officially named as Campeonato da Primeira Divisão de Futebol Profissional da FGF - Divisão Especial - Série A1 and commonly known as Campeonato Gaúcho or Gauchã ...
in 1928. In the 1940s, the club merged with a team owned by a group of students, and it was renamed to Americano-Universitário, but the merge was a failure, and the club folded.
