Name and history

Scipio Township was organized in 1824. It was named after
Scipio, New York Scipio is a Administrative divisions of New York#Town, town in Cayuga County, New York, Cayuga County, New York (state), New York, United States. The population was 1,713 at the 2010 census. Scipio is centrally located in the southern half of the ...
, the former hometown of many of its early settlers. Statewide, the only other Scipio Township is located in Meigs County.


Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,§503.24§505.01
