) was the final report agreed upon by the countries participating in the round table entitled “The development and role of museums in the contemporary world”, convened by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM). It is considered a historical milestone in the way of thinking about museums in Latin America. The convening of this round table was decided at the XVI UNESCO Meeting in 1970 and had as background the UNESCO International Symposium in Paris in 1969. It took place between May 20 and 31, 1972 under the direction of the Uruguayan astronomer Héctor Fernández Guido, during the Santiago Conference, organized by UNESCO, and convened various museums and institutions such as the
