Sand Creek Township is a township in Scott County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2000 census.

History

Sand Creek Township was originally called Douglas Township, and under the latter name was organized in 1858. Several months later it was renamed St. Mary Township. The name was again changed in 1859, after the Sand Creek.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 32.9 square miles (85.2 km), of which 32.4 square miles (84.0 km) is land and 0.5 square mile (1.2 km) (1.40%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,551 people, 478 households, and 391 families residing in the township. The population density was . In the township the population was spread out, with 27.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 121.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 127.2 males. The median income for a household in the township was $65,370, and the median income for a family was $67,000. Males had a median income of $41,591 versus $27,784 for females.
