Sabanilla is a town and one of the 119 Municipalities of Chiapas, in southern Mexico. As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 25,187, up from 21,156 as of 2005. It covers an area of 171.4 km2. As of 2010, the town of Sabanilla had a population of 3,052. History

Sabanilla was founded in 1771 by 150 migrants from the surrounding villages of Moyos and Tila. They sent a letter to the Spanish King, Carlos III, signed by the only literate person, Matheo Diaz. The priest of Moyos approved the foundation of the settlement.
