History

The route was activated on 14 December 2008, and was initially an hourly
regional rail Regional rail, also known as local trains and stopping trains, are passenger rail services that operate between towns and cities. These trains operate with more stops over shorter distances than inter-city rail, but fewer stops and faster serv ...
service between its two termini, although it was designated at Chiasso station as the S11. On 13 December 2009, the Italian part of the route was reclassified as the S11 suburban rail line. On 26 April 2015, has been extended to Rho.

Scheduling

, S11 trains ran hourly between 05:16 and 24:00 Monday to Saturday, with additional services during rush hour in the mornings and evenings.
