, where he attended the district school. He also attended the Kinsman Academy and the Grand River Institute in Austinburg, Ohio. Later, he taught school in 1846, 1847, 1849, and 1850 before he studied law at the New York State and National Law School in

Upon leaving Congress, he served as the collector of internal revenue for the third district of Indiana from 1869 to 1875. He moved to
