Career

Hughes played junior ice hockey with the Lac St-Louis Lions Midget AAA team from 1987 to 1989. In 1988–89, he played three games for the Canadian national team. Hughes then played ice hockey with Cornell University Big Red from 1989 until 1993. After his first season with Cornell, when he scored seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 28 games, he was selected in the second round, 22nd overall by the
