History

It is believed that the village was named after
Prince Rupert of the Rhine Prince Rupert of the Rhine, Duke of Cumberland, (17 December 1619 (O.S.) / 27 December (N.S.) – 29 November 1682 (O.S.)) was an English army officer, admiral, scientist and colonial governor. He first came to prominence as a Royalist cavalr ...
(1619–1682), but it is uncertain.


Geography

Ruperts belongs to the district of Jamestown, It is 3.5 km by road from Jamestown but is, as the crow flies, only 660 meters away from it, separated by a hill. The village is composed by the zones of Rupert's Valley, inner and between two hills, and Rupert's Wharf, by the sea and in front of Rupert's Bay. Ruperts' main road runs into the valley to the harbour area, and the settlements spans on it for about 800 m.
