Following the 1999 season without a sponsor, Rudd closed his team, having decided that the stress of balancing team ownership with driving was unprofitable and moved to drive Robert Yates Racing's No. 28 starting in 2000. The assets of Rudd Performance Motorsports were auctioned off on December 1, 1999.
