History

Roundup was established in 1912 and was originally located on the second Spade Ranch. The town was developed as a stop on the
Santa Fe Railroad The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and S ...
and shipped cattle, cotton, and grain for the ranch. The town's population peaked at 50 in 1948 then declined to 27 in 1980 and today the population is estimated to be around 20.
