Description

'Henry Hudson' is a medium, bushy Hybrid Rugosa rose, in height, with a spread. It has a double, flat bloom form of medium-sized flowers. Pink, rounded buds open to white flowers with shades of pink and yellow stamens. The rose has a strong, sweet scent. The rose will occasionally bloom later in the season. It has a dense growing habit and is very disease resistant. The leaves are rough and pale green, typical of most Rugosa roses.

Some of her most popular cultivars are: 'John Cabot', 'Alexander MacKenzie', 'Henry Kelsey', and 'Jens Munk'. Svejvda led the rose-breeding program at CEF for 25 years, until her retirement in 1985. Her roses continued to be introduced in Canada well into the 1990s. Svejda died Jan. 19, 2016 in Ottawa at the age 95.
