History

According to city legend, the place earned its name by accident. Before the independence of Pakistan, a foreigner came to visit this place. He did not know its name, so he asked an old woman what its name was. She did not speak English and was carrying a pot of flour on her head. She assumed he was asking about the flour and replied to him in either Northern-Punjabi or a Northern-Pakistani language, "Puttar, Atta." This translates to "Son,

flour." From then on, the place was named Pathriata and is similar to the Northern-Punjabi and Northern-Pakistani words Puttar Atta.
