About the prize

The prize is named after the British numismatist
Frederick Parkes Weber Frederick Parkes Weber (8 May 1863 – 2 June 1962) was an English dermatologist and author who practiced medicine in London. Background Weber's father, Sir Hermann David Weber (1823–1918), was a personal physician to Queen Victoria. ...
. It was instituted in 1954 and is under the administration of the Council of the Royal Numismatic Society. It is awarded for an original essay of not more than 5,000 words on any subject relating to coins, medals, medallions, tokens or paper money.
