Thereafter, the star will steadily diverge from the pair.

They tentatively detected two additional features: a cold belt with a temperature of 10 K orbiting around 30 AU and a compact emission source about 1.2 arcseconds from the star. There was a hint at an additional warm dust belt at a distance of 0.4 AU from the star. However, upon further analysis, these emissions were determined to be most likely the result of a large flare emitted by the star in March 2017. The presence of dust is not needed to model the observations.

Because of the star's proximity to Earth, Proxima Centauri has been proposed as a flyby destination for interstellar travel.
