History

The village was first mentioned in 1147 as Posterholt. The etymology is unclear. Posterholt is a linear forest cultivation village from the 12th century. It became an independent parish in 1793. The Catholic St Mathias was built between 1950 and 1951 to replace the earlier church which was destroyed in 1945. The tower was added between 1961 and 1962. The Aerwinckel estate was built in 1856 and designed by
