Originally named the ''Western Political Quarterly'', it served as the official journal of the Western Political Science Association since it was first published by the
University of Utah The University of Utah (U of U, UofU, or simply The U) is a public research university in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. The university was established in 1850 as the University of De ...
in March, 1948. The relationship between the association and the journal was formalized in 1971. The journal was renamed ''Political Research Quarterly'' in 1992.
