party-led government. He is living in exile in France since the movement for safe roads in 2018. Pinaki's activism played a crucial role in the ousting of Sheikh Hasina from power.


Early life

Pinaki was born in a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family in 1967. He is the elder son of former Bogra Zilla School teacher and cultural personality Shyamal Bhattacharya. Although he studied medicine, he is currently not involved in this profession. He is in political asylum in France and is doing his PhD there. Pinaki Bhattacharya is best known as a Bangladeshi blogger and social activist. He has become widely discussed and popular for playing an important role in the India out campaign in Bangladesh. He was an adjunct faculty at American International University-Bangladesh.


Education and career

He is a medical professional with an MBBS degree and an MBA from a business school, currently pursuing a PhD. After closing his pharmaceutical business upon leaving the country, he moved into a specialized role in global medical relations. He is currently based in Paris, working as a Global Medical Relations Specialist for L'Oréal, managing medical affairs for five of their skincare brands: La Roche-Posay, Vichy Laboratories, CeraVe, Skinbetter Science, and SkinCeuticals.


Politics

Pinaki was once involved in leftist politics, being a former member of the Communist Party of Bangladesh. He has written 18 books on the history of Bangladeshi politics and various other subjects. Currently, he is a popular online activist, actively posting on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. He has over 2.1 million subscribers on YouTube and over 700,000 followers on Facebook. He often writes and makes videos on the history of Bangladesh, ongoing politics, human rights issues, and issues of neighboring countries.


Controversies

Pinaki Bhattacharya has been criticizing the Bangladesh Awami League government's corruption, human rights violations, kidnappings, and extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh for a long time in Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blog posts. His posts and tweets are often critical of Bangladesh's former ruling party, the Awami League. . At the same time, military intelligence officers summoned Pinaki to their headquarters in Dhaka. They did not elaborate on why he was summoned. There are instances where military intelligence officers summon dissidents to their offices, many of whom have not been found after meeting with military intelligence. Considering the situation, Pinaki went into hiding without going to meet the intelligence officers. Intelligence officials raided Pinaki's residence and office several times to trace him. They even keep his residence under round-the-clock surveillance. While in hiding, authorities banned him from leaving the country. Pinaki was able to leave the country with the help of friends and reached Bangkok in January 2019. Two months later he reached France and is currently under political asylum there. He is now doing his higher studies at the Sarborn University in Paris. In February 2024, He threatened Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim not to be involved in the promotion of the film Hubba directed by Bratya Basu and Hoichoi or Indian OTT platforms.
