In September 2016, they closed a $45M Series C round from San Francisco-based private equity firm TPG Growth to continue the expansion. In August 2023, the company announced that it would not be renewing the lease on its original store on 24th Street in the Mission district of San Francisco. It was later determined that the building housing this coffee shop was “owned by an LLC managed by Philz’s co-founder, Jacob Jaber.”
