Dr. Mathuki currently serves as the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), steering the Regional integration agenda. He was appointed to that position by the East African Community Heads of State on 27 February 2021. He assumed office on 25 April 2021 replacing

. He is also the current Chairperson of the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Task Force (TTF) which consists of 26 member countries. He previously served as the Executive Director of the East African Business Council (EABC), (2018-2021) where he advocated the voice of the private sector in East African Community decision-making processes and advocating for a conducive business environment for increased trade and investment in the bloc.
