Taxonomy

Based on molecular data, the previously very diverse genus ''
Hylarana ''Hylarana'', commonly known as golden-backed frogs, is a genus of true frogs found in tropical Asia. It was formerly considered highly diverse, containing around 84 to 96 Valid name (zoology), valid species, but taxonomic revision resulted in a ...
'' was split in numerous genera in 2015. Molecular data from ''Papurana elberti'' was not included in the study, and therefore its placement in ''Papurana'' is provisional, pending more morphological and molecular data.


Conservation

''Papurana elberti'' has been assessed by the
International Union for Conservation of Nature The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN; officially International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) is an international organization working in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natu ...
(IUCN), but the assessment is from 2004 and suggest a broader range than more recent sources.
