Out of the forested land, 34.7% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 14.8% is used for growing crops and 30.4% is pastures, while 5.8% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water. The municipality is located in the Sissach district, in the upper Ergolz valley on the old road over the Schafmatt pass.
