Hamnett was born c. 1942/1943,Daily Mirror, 15 September 1964, p3. The article states that she is "21 years old", suggesting she was most likely born in 1943 but possibly late in 1942. in St Helens, Lancashire, England. She started her acting career in her native England in theatre, and moved into television roles in the early 1960s, she had numerous guest roles on television programs including '' Department S'' and ''
