The name Natantia Owen, 1851 was utilized in a phylogenetic context by Madzia and Cau (2017) as the most exclusive mosasaurid clade including ''Mosasaurus'' and ''Tylosaurus'' but not ''Halisaurus''.Madzia and Cau (2017).
