History and architectural features
This district encompasses 114 contributing buildings that are located in the
central business district and surrounding residential areas of North East, and includes commercial, residential, institutional, and religious structures. The buildings were built from the mid-nineteenth to early-twentieth centuries and were designed in a variety of popular architectural styles, including

Notable non-residential buildings include commercial buildings along East and West Main Street and South Lake Street, the Concord Hotel, the Crescent Hose Company, the Baptist Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Methodist Church, two main buildings of St. Mary's Seminary, the McCord Memorial Library (1916), and the Heard Memorial School.
